The ME Fire Coalition will intentionally light two fires in front of a live audience on Thursday, October 13, at 12:00 Noon at the Maine Fire Service Institute, 19 Sewall St. Brunswick ME 04039. MFSI is located on the Southern Maine Community College Midcoast Campus (formerly BNAS). The ME Fire Coalition received support from the Maine Fire Services Institute, Southern Maine Community Colleges, National Fire Protection Agency to bring this important event to Maine. The Brunswick Fire Department will have firefighters and fire apparatus on hand as well.

The Maine Fire Sprinkler Coalition is a part of NFPA’s Fire Sprinkler Initiative, a nationwide effort to mandate the use of home fire sprinklers and the adoption of fire sprinkler requirements for new construction.

Residential Fire Sprinkler System Education Opportunity
The ME Fire Sprinkler Coalition has joined with the National Fire Protection Association and the National Fire Sprinkler Association to educate and inform the members of the various member groups of the ME Water professionals and purveyor stakeholders, ME Building Officials, Fire Officials, Insurance Industry, Home Builders and Public Health personnel to understand Risks and Home Safety Technology as part of training being held at the Maine Fire Service Institute,19 Sewall St, Brunswick, ME 04011.
Matt Klaus, NFPA’s principal fire protection engineer and staff liaison for NFPA 13D, Installation of Sprinkler Systems in One- and Two-Family Dwellings and Manufactured Homes, has extensive knowledge of the standard and will discuss technical aspects of home fire sprinklers that will hopefully initiate discussions and clear up any myths and misconceptions.
7:30 AM - Registration and refreshments.
8:00 – 11:00 AM - Educational forum by Matt Klaus.
11:15 -11:45 AM - A live, side-by-side fire and sprinkler burn demonstration that vividly shows the tremendous speed of a typical home fire and its potential for deadly destruction. Also illustrated is the vital importance of home fire safety technology that can save lives and reduce property damage (smoke alarms and home fire sprinkler systems). The demonstration is open to the public.
12:00 - Buffett style lunch and commencement.
