MFT&E has an on-going need for qualified instructors. MFT&E utilizes three categories of instructors: state fire instructors, fire science instructors, and certified fire instructors.

State Fire Instructors

These positions are regular, appointed, part-time per diem positions. MFT&E has budget authority for 50 such positions, 25 in Region 1 and 25 in Region 2. Periodically MFT&E advertises to fill vacant SFI positions. There are no SFI openings at this time.

Fire Science Instructors

These are short-term contractual positions with the community college system intended to fill a specific need for a particular fire science course. Individuals with specific experience related to a particular fire science who are interested in teaching opportunities should contact the Fire Science Program Coordinator.

Certified Fire Instructors

These are temporary per diem positions filled to meet a specific, short term program need. MFT&E will only hire a CFI after certain requirements are met. MFT&E maintains a database of qualified individuals. There are no CFI openings at this time.



     

Train-the-Trainer Policy

In order to become qualified to teach any hands-on course for MFT&E you must first become a Certified Fire Instructor, complete the the course(s) you wish to teach, and finally attend a train-the-trainer session for the course(s) you wish to teach.
